    Job Description

    The Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce is seeking a highly experienced candidate with both visionary and management skills to become its next President & Chief Executive Officer. The new CEO will work with an engaged Board and committed staff to drive the Chamber’s mission to improve the economic prosperity and quality of life in Aurora, Illinois.

    Title: President & Chief Executive Officer
    Reports to: Board of Directors
    Classification: Exempt
    Objectives: Responsible for the overall marketing, growth, planning, organizing and directing of chamber operations including program objectives, finances, staff and quality of services
    Scope: All operations of the Chamber under authority of the Board of Directors
    Duties
     Maintain a high profile in the business community
     Work with staff in the creation of innovative marketing and growth programs to expand membership
     Work with Board of Directors to develop an annual Program of Work reflecting the organization’s purpose and membership needs for the fiscal year based on the Strategic Plan
     Establish, maintain, formulate, and evaluate long-range objectives
     Prepare an annual budget and ensure the organization is managed within these financial guidelines; to be submitted to the full Board of Directors for approval
     Develop operational plans for meeting the budget
     Maintain and develop chamber staffing plan consistent with program needs and financial guidelines; responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, and dismissal
     Manage and develop areas of responsibility and standards of performance for each staff member
     Evaluate staff performance on an annual basis to ensure satisfactory staff functions, and accomplishment of the Chamber’s objectives
     Serve as Executive Staff for the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce at all Board of Directors meetings
     Maintain contact with all committees and be aware of the current status of all Chamber projects in relation to the original objective, the current position, and the work yet to be done
     Ensure committee structure supports the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce overall mission
     Serve as chief advisor to the Board of Directors and provide overall strategic direction to the board and chamber
     Advise, guide, and assist the board and officers in the selection of board members, officers, committee chairs, and committee members
     Provide the board with regular updates concerning chamber committee developments and activities
     Recommend appropriate policy revisions and/or additions
     Keep abreast of chamber-related industry trends on a local, state, and national level
     Suggest and implement innovative and creative ideas for growing and maintaining a vibrant chamber
     Seek to develop strong working relationships with surrounding chamber entities
     Advocate on behalf of the Aurora area business community as directed by the Board of Directors
     Represent the Chamber at various meetings, community functions, and events
     Make public addresses and secure appropriate speakers concerning the Chamber and community activities and issues
     Serve as chief spokesperson for the chamber and seek to develop a credible and professional presence in the community
     Maintain and develop strong working relationships with local political officials
     Partner with the Aurora Economic Development Commission with bringing business into the community
     Stay apprised of governmental initiatives affecting chamber members and initiatives
     Network with local and related trade associations that may affect or enrich member interests
     Oversee the direction of all membership efforts and develop a retention plan that encourages members to become actively involved
     Coordinate new member development and oversee orientation programs
     Direct proper membership record keeping procedures
     Develop and maintain relations with major employers/members
     Develop and communicate member benefits
     Conduct the official correspondence of the Chamber and maintain proper records Preserve all legal and historical documents relating to the Chamber’s activities, programs, property and possessions
     Meet all necessary legal and financial reporting requirements
     Approve and sign checks on all Board-approved budget expenditures
     Direct office maintenance including replacement of equipment and purchase of additional equipment according to budget
     Manage the property and building income and expenses
     Be generally familiar with the community and its activities and develop knowledge of all other organizations in the community, their programs and their leadership
     Keep abreast of community concerns and opportunities affecting chamber members and bring them to the attention of the appropriate agency, group or individual
     Perform other duties to ensure the success of the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce
    Education
     Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, business or related field; master’s preferred
     More than 10 years of professional management experience in a progressive management position
     Proven leadership skills
    Skills Self-starter, entrepreneurial and collaborative attitude, customer-service appreciation and ability to maintain positive outlook at all times. Excellent professional oral and written communications skills are an absolute necessity Individual must display dynamic and energetic personality
    Location Office location with some local travel for membership visits, events, etc.
