Please join us in congratulating Don Holwerda of Country Financial as he celebrates 50 years of service with the company!

Don came to Wheaton to attend Wheaton College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1969. “Wheaton was a little different back then,” he said, quoting his father-in-law who described Wheaton then as “out in the boonies.” Don’s first job was as a swimming coach at Wheaton College and then a swim coach at BR Ryall YMCA in Glen Ellyn. He was promoted to director of physical education at the Y, married his wife Karen in 1972 and they went on to have three children and 10 grandchildren.

In 1974, Don was offered a position as an insurance agent for Country Companies, now Country Financial. He continued to volunteer as an assistant swim coach at Wheaton College for 37 years and was part of the Missionary Furlough Homes in Wheaton for 41 years. “I’m so grateful to have been part of such a great company that will celebrate 100 years in 2025,” Don said. “Wheaton has been a great place to raise our family, and we’ve been blessed to have lived here all these years.” We couldn’t agree more.
